Breathing Flame

Forgemaster, Monk, and Daughter of Abalathia

Breathing's Echo abilities are opt-in. I don't like powergaming with them; I will never disrupt a scene with them, nor disclose that they exist unless asked, but you're welcome to ask freely to know more! Her power, such as it is, works best on handcrafted items, from which she can dimly read the past of its most recent owner. These visions may be brief, abstract, or even nonsensical. What she reads from the past of your character is up to you to decide. Those with the Echo themselves are welcome to read parts of her past, but be aware:By opting into this aspect of Breathing's Story, you dip into parts of her past that might be considered too 'high-attention' for the average bar scene. If you'd like to grapple with the more Heroic side of Breathing's past, don't be surprised if I ask for a private discussion first.

What is Rovkir?Rovkir is a (noncanon) source of power for (noncanon) monks trained in the Abalathian tradition. A singular technique developed first as a survival tool, Rovkir uses the flow of aether through the lungs instead of through chakras. Villages and Towns multiple mountain ranges apart have developed wildly divergent styles of this technique (meaning if you want to make your own, you can, freely!).Generally, but not always, Rovkir practices numbered techniques, each with their own purpose. Breathing was taught 46, but other monastic schools teach anywhere from 12 to 305.Rovkir is open-source material meant to deepen the Monk class for the Roegadyn in particular. If you have any further questions, please reach out in-game!

  • Born Breathing Flame, Second Son of Unflinching Mountain, a Forgemaster and Monk in distant Abalathia. Breathing was taught the basics of Rovkir and instructed to bring his father glory and renown in the wide world.

  • At 13, Breathing left home, finding work initially in Ishgard. His strength and dutiful nature landed him a position as a varlet under a flagging noble house. He left after just more than a year.

  • Coming to Ul'dah at 14, he was swiftly robbed of every possession he had to his name and was left starving in the street. The young man decided that the talents he'd been given (Rovkir) were not the righteous tools of justice his father made them out to be but were in fact, His Toys To Make A Better Life With. He was 6 fulms tall and mighty. The answer was Obvious.

  • Enter Breathing Flame, other wise known as RED FIREBRAND, bantamweight gladiator and 4-time champion. Red's history with the Bloodsands is sordid but fabled-- he entered one season like a flash, cleaned out the arena 5 times in a row, then vanished. Street stories about why he vanished , ranging from 'killed by the syndicate' to 'left this star to go to his home world', abound on the streets of Ul'dah. He never showed his face to anyone. Always masked.

  • The truth of the matter? Actions have Consequences. The Syndicate crime families staging the fights realized they got their hands on a golden goose-- a kid who never loses, and has nothing left to lose.

  • They put the screws to Breathing and he, realizing he could not outfight an organization so powerful, agreed to work for them in return for his life.

  • Enter Breathing Flame, otherwise known as THE SCORPION, thug for the local mafia and eventually bandit leader.

  • Breathing Flame was possessed of tremendous strength and resilience through the monastic powers of Rovkir.

  • That made him pretty useful to the mafia.

  • After a tour of about 8 years with the crime families of Ul'dah, the heat got too hot and he skipped town, becoming a bandit leader in Thanalan.

  • That bandit troupe ended up getting trounced by one of the many Warriors of Light, then saved by them, and then put to trial.

  • Breathing was released to fight at Carteneau. Though he thinks he fought valiantly alongside the hero, he managed to save absolutely no one and remembers nothing of their faces.

  • The roegadyn known as Breathing Flame vanished for a year after his twenty-fifth nameday. When he returned, she was a new woman - so new, most folk would never know her for the burly, tired man she used to be. Overly nosy speculators can have their guess, from extensive glamoring to a pixie curse to whispers of the mythical fantasia. Breathing is not open to speculation on the matter - she considers her happiness in the present to be all that matters.
